Fruitland Elementary School Construction
Fruitland Traffic Improvements
Pickup/Dropoff Changes Starting Feb. 18
To help alleviate traffic congestion, the first phase of the plan will involve busing all waiver students from the Kessler Center to Fruitland and back. This temporary transportation change will take effect on February 18th for waiver families.
These changes are part of the Fruitland Traffic Improvement Project, which is funded through the Capital Levy approved by voters in February 2024. Upcoming traffic improvements at Fruitland Elementary aim to enhance safety and ease congestion around the school.
Waiver students only
Buses 429 and 430
- 7:30 a.m. – Student pick-up at Kessler Center
Buses 429 and 430
- 3:35 p.m. – Students arrive to Kessler
Thanks to your approval of the 2024 Capital Levy, we are excited to announce a significant project that will enhance traffic flow around Fruitland Elementary. Over the next two to three years, our Capital Projects team will collaborate with the City of Puyallup to improve traffic conditions to and from the school.
Fruitland Elementary’s entrance is on a curved stretch of Fruitland Avenue, making entering and exiting the school difficult and sometimes dangerous. The planned traffic modifications aim to keep students, families, and the community safe during high-traffic times by creating a safer and more efficient flow of vehicles.
These improvements will benefit not only Fruitland Elementary students but the entire community. Safer routes will enhance student safety during drop-off and pick-up times, reduce neighborhood residents' congestion, and improve access for emergency vehicles. By creating smoother traffic flow, we are also minimizing the environmental impact of idling vehicles and contributing to a more sustainable community.
We are grateful for your support in making these important improvements possible!

*Much of the funding included in this capital levy is not just related to systems that need replacement due to their age but are also tied to becoming compliant with the Clean Buildings Act. We agree that the intent of this legislation is good for improving our impact on the environment, conserving energy, and lowering our operations costs, however it will take a significant investment. Without funding, it will be impossible to reach the benchmarks required to avoid the fines that will be levied by the state. Those fines would be paid from the general fund and could be thousands of dollars, again, impacting the resources available for teaching and learning. Learn more about our CBA requirements.
