Melissa is one of the most talented and transformative leaders I’ve known in 17 years of teaching. As DECA President both at Emerald Ridge and Area 7, she transformed our DECA and Student-Based Enterprise programs into models of success. She pioneered "DECA the Halls," securing 30 professionals to judge 100+ presentations, all while winning first place herself. Melissa doesn’t just achieve greatness, she inspires others to reach their goals. Her vision and drive make her truly exceptional.

As an Eagle Scout, Ryden understands the importance of leaving places better than he found them. At Emerald Ridge, he launched Emerald Vision as a sophomore and spent three years refining it for future students. Among the hardest-working students I have known, Ryden excelled as a stage manager, AP scholar, and community servant. Quietly and humbly, he inspired his peers, elevated their performance and, in the process, leaves ER better than he found it.

Drew Baker is a special young man. While his academic record speaks for itself, it is important to note that Drew accomplished that record while balancing a variety of other endeavors. His commitments were diverse, and each brought their own level of challenge: performing at a high level in three Varsity sports, playing contrabass clarinet in the PHS Wind Ensemble and the bass clarinet in the Pep Band, serving our school and community as a Viking Knight, and taking on leadership roles in almost every setting. I had the privilege of personally witnessing the impact of Drew’s leadership at the Jesus Club, where he had the courage and conviction to share several messages of faith with his peers. Additionally, his leadership on the distance running teams has prepared him to participate in both Cross-Country and Track next year at George Fox University. It is always worth our time to pause, recognize, and appreciate a young man like Drew, who challenges himself and pursues excellence in everything he does.

Even in the worst of times, such as 5th period AP Chemistry, Kyson maintains a welcoming and accepting attitude toward his peers. Impressively, while playing varsity football and track, volunteering as a Viking Knight, and taking multiple Advanced Placement courses, Kyson also held part-time jobs throughout high school. In the future, he will attend college to become a teacher. We will be proud to have him as a colleague.

Sometimes in life, you are an unassuming beta fish, bought from the pet store on a March afternoon, only to be hidden in the back of a locker room. It is what you do with your circumstances that can dictate your future. Choosing to thrive anyways with drive, focus, and compassion makes you a beautiful beta. Deciding you have all the support you need within you and around you allows your colors to grow. Focusing on the impact your beauty has on others makes your goals achievable through grit and faith. Cameron Edgbert is that beta fish.

Victoria’s list of accolades is a tribute to her hard work, but what those awards don’t tell you is what a respectful, kind, thoughtful person she is. Victoria is determined, she has overcome obstacles no teenager should ever have to negotiate, but it has never dimmed her goodness or desire to push herself. Some people are lights to others, but some people sparkle even in the darkness.

Drew is truly one of the best that Puyallup High School has to offer. He not only excels in the classroom with his 4.0 GPA but also on the basketball court where he led PHS Boys Basketball Team to a 2nd place in State this year. He also etched his name in the record books by being the only player with 1000 points and 300 assists in his high school career. His work ethic and dedication are second to none. On top of his academic and athletic achievements, he participates in numerous community service activities, from running clothing drives to volunteering at youth basketball camps, which demonstrates his dedication to the community. He is an excellent student as well as an excellent human. He will definitely go on and do GREAT things!

He’s a standout at PHS for his remarkable effort here, and even more for all that he has been through before he joined us. Leaving his home in Ukraine when war broke out, he spent months volunteering to help other displaced people in Europe before coming to America. He exudes kindness and intelligence in everything he does.

There are few who spend more time in this school building than Akshaj, but his time outside of class is spent focusing on serving others. The last two years he has been the committee leader on our biggest annual service project: Winter Wishes which he spends 8 weeks gathering donations directly from the surrounding community to provide for the needs of our student body. The time he continuously gives proves that his heart lies in service. He has a desire to positively impact young people in a way to encourage them to not only find the value in serving others but to see the power service has in bringing a community together. In college, I see him continuing his work in service while preparing to positively impact the community and world around him.

Sam is a true steward—always willing to step forward, be present and engaged, and lend a helping hand. Sam stays active as a Varsity Tennis player, a multi-instrument musician in both Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble, and a competitive member of Math Team while also taking AP and Honors classes. Despite how busy he stays, Sam can always be found lending a hand whether in the classrooms or hallways of PHS, at Math Center as a student tutor, or as a welcoming face at events with Viking Knights and Ladies. Sam leaves every space he engages in better than it was before simply by always being willing to give a little of his time to share with and help others.

Harjovan Kaur (Jovan) came to the U.S. from India just a few years ago. She faced the language and cultural challenges of an entirely new life which she overcame through resilience and determination. Through her dedication and consistency, she transformed from a reserved shy student into a confident, accomplished graduate. Her perseverance and success inspire us all that language is not a barrier but a bridge to endless opportunities.

It has been my distinct pleasure to have Linnea Phillips in coursework for two years, with her junior year in AP Research and her senior year in AP Literature. Witnessing Linnea’s casual competence, earnest scholarly work, and growth has been a joy during these years. Linnea is an insightful thinker, who does not shrink away from close reading or complicated discussion. She constantly pushes herself, and her classmates, to look more closely and think more deeply. This passion and focus is utilized in all aspects of Linnea’s focus, from ballet to viola. Linnea’s playful and joyful manner will serve her well as she intends to pursue music education. Oh, for the fortunate students that will be in her future classroom!

Josiah is a fantastic representation of what we want at Rogers High School; proud, dedicated, resilient. His pride for Rogers High School shines brightest on the athletic field, being an All-SPSL Running back in Football as well as State Champion in wrestling. While a standout athlete, Josiah is a phenomenal mentor in the classroom and example for the Rams that follow him giving back to the community using his accolades to help grow the vision that Rogers has for itself; leaving this place better than he found it. In a time where athletes like Josiah find themselves transferring to other programs, he chose to stay and build something of meaning. He is a throwback, who does not shy from adversity and the hard work that building a legacy requires.

Aubrie Baker is one of those uniquely talented students that comes along when you're teaching. She is an incredibly skilled artist and an adept writer, but what I will remember about her is her deep compassion for others. Aubrie is a student who understands the world around her in a rare way, and (thanks to our mural project) has literally left her mark on the school. Next, she plans to go to art school, and those who know her well couldn't be happier. We could use more humans like Aubrie in this world, using her creative ideas and insightful thinking to make things better around us.

If you met Dylan in spring of 2024 and met him again in the spring of 2025, you may not recognize him as the same person. Dylan had some life challenges happen over the course of his high school career. He did well academically, but had a very difficult time with interpersonal interaction, he was afraid to talk to people. Since joining our POD classroom, Dylan has found his voice, created a core group of life-long friends, and stepped into roles as both the POD ASB president as well as a W.O.L.F. ambassador. He went from being a wallflower to being a confident public speaker, and we are so very proud of him!

Inquisitive and analytical, Jakeb approaches learning with a thirst for knowledge, constant curiosity, and desire to delve deeper into the intricacies of subjects by challenging assumptions and connecting concepts. With a mindset to go out and change the world, most especially the environment, I have no doubt that he will succeed.

Anyone who’s had Juliana in class knows how incredible of a student she is. Always focused, never any late assignments. In talking with Juliana, it sounds like she’s come incredibly far compared to where she was before coming to Walker. She decided to flip a switch, and we’ve all gotten to see how incredibly successful she is when she’s locked in. But, what is most incredible about Juliana is not the work she does on papers and in class, it’s her ability to connect with people. You can see that her friends love having her around and have faith in her to be a trustworthy ear and a voice of wisdom. Juliana has an emotional maturity far beyond her years and anyone who gets to connect with her is sure to have a meaningful conversation and receive insight from an incredibly intelligent mind. Juliana isn’t quite sure what her next steps are, which is a great place to be. It’s a blank canvas on which she’s going to paint a beautiful picture of her life. Someone as talented as her is sure to find themselves in roles of true impact on humanity.

Isabelle Oakley carries herself with an infectious happiness and positivity. She has been an inaugural member of the W.O.L.F. ambassadors, a student ambassador program focused on both increasing connections of our new students to campus and extending our presence in the community. Her willingness to support other students as well as taking an informal leadership role within the group is a testament to her ability to connect with others in an authentic way. Isabelle was also selected to take part in a student interview panel as part of an interview team to hire a new Connection Coordinator. This was the first time students have been involved in the interview process at Walker High School and Puyallup Open Doors. Due to her involvement and positive impact on campus, she will be missed, but she will undoubtedly excel as she pursues a degree in Cosmetology with the intent of owning her own salon in the future.

Her dedication to academics and personal growth is evident with multiple honors and scholarships, and the lasting impact she has left on the students and staff in our school community. She has always been a source of encouragement for others as I’ve witnessed many times how she helped her friends feel like the impossible is possible. Looking ahead, Em is set to begin an exciting new start to her career as she joins the Puget Sound Electrical Apprenticeship through the Port of Seattle, where she will excel in a career following in her grandfather’s footsteps.

Because of these skills she learned a coding language these last 2 years and programmed Walker High School’s Wolf Tech Robotics robot to compete at the highest levels in the state. Her efforts with programming, CAD design, and fabrication led the team in receiving 1st place at the First Robotics Competition (FRC), Auburn High School, District Competition. With the accomplishments she has made in the last few years, I have no doubt that whatever path she takes moving forward, she will succeed, and she will bring whoever is surrounding her success as well.
