Joint Statement from the School Board and Superintendent - May 29, 2025
Superintendent John Polm and the Puyallup School Board announce that Superintendent Polm is retiring from the District effective June 30, 2025. Superintendent Polm has been on leave since May 19th and will remain so through the end of his employment. Effective May 29, the Board has appointed Assistant Superintendent Richard Lasso to serve as Administrative Designee through the remainder of the 2024-25 school year and to serve as Interim-Superintendent through the 2025-26 school year to provide consistency while the Board plans for the long-term leadership of the District.
Superintendent Polm has been with the District since July 1, 2020, most recently after serving as Superintendent for the Port Townsend School District following many assignments in a long career in public education. He counts among his achievements in Puyallup the collective efforts to strengthen programs and facilities, improved community engagement, and the elevation of student voice. He is thankful for the opportunity to serve alongside the caring individuals who are part of the Puyallup School District community. Puyallup School Board President Madeleine Names, on behalf of the Board, notes Superintendent Polm’s commitment to, and concern for, the students of the Puyallup community in thanking him for his service.
